Eraser Logo The Eraser developers have announced the availability of version 6.0.7 of their advanced security tool for Windows. Eraser is a software utility for securely deleting files and folders from different types of magnetic media, such as hard drives and floppy disks. It removes sensitive information by overwriting the area of the drive on which the data is stored one or more times using special algorithms.

The latest stable 6.0.x branch update addresses a number of bugs found in the previous 6.0.6 release, including several stability issues. The developers also note that, with this release, support for the 5.x branch of Eraser, which supported versions of Windows prior to XP, is being discontinued – meaning that there will be no more official builds or support through official channels. The last 5.x update was version 5.8.8 from the 14th of December, 2009. All users are encouraged to upgrade to the latest version.

More details about the release can be found in the change log. Eraser 6.0.7 is available to download from SourceForge for Windows XP or later and is released under the GNU General Public License.
