jQuery Logo The jQuery Project developers have issued a first release candidate for version 1.5 of jQuery. jQuery is a JavaScript Library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, animation and Ajax interactions for rapid web development.

According to the developers, barring any major issues found in this version, the first release candidate "should be the code that we end up shipping for jQuery 1.5". As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter. The final version of jQuery 1.5 is scheduled to be released on the 31st of January.

Further information about the release candidate can be found in a post on the jQuery blog. The dual licensed (MIT/GPLv2) jQuery 1.5 RC1 is available now from the jQuery content delivery network at the URL code.jquery.com/jquery-1.5rc1.js. The latest stable release is jQuery 1.4.4, a maintenance update from mid-November of last year that addressed a number of bugs found in the previous version and introduced a new animation method to Effects.
