Zend, the PHP company, has added a new product to it's line-up, Zend Server. The Application server is the first time that a public beta has been made available to download for free from Zend. There are two versions of Zend Server planned, a free Community Edition and a commercial product that also has the ability to cache pages and monitor functionality. The Zend Server community edition is not an open source project, but only a free closed source product provided by Zend. According to Zend, the commercial version will include additional services and automatically installable updates.

Zend Server's native installer includes a certified PHP distribution, Zend Framework, out-of-the-box connectivity to all common databases, a Java connector, a scalable and PHP-integrated download server, Apache Web server, and MySQL database (for Windows). There is also an administrator interface to configure PHP applications and Java integration enables calls from PHP to Java code running on a Java EE application server. Zend Server beta is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
