The X.Org Foundation and developers have announced the availability of the X11R7.5 windowing system, also known X.Org 7.5. Running on Linux, BSD, Solaris, Mac OS X, Windows and other platforms, the new release incorporates a number of new features. Multi-Pointer X (MPX) allows the user to have multiple mouse cursors on the display, which should improve the way X11 based systems work with multi-touch displays and gesture based interfaces. The X Input Extension has also been revamped as part of adding MPX and it is now more dynamic in its handling of input devices.

RANDR (Resize,Rotate and Reflect) which gives X the ability to support virtual displays, has been updated to version 1.3, returning the ability to support panning and full projective transforms. This allows display scaling and keystone correction for projectors. The DRI2 extension has also been incorporated allowing applications to access direct rendering technologies. The first use of this is in a direct rendering OpenGL driver, but DRI2 is not just for OpenGL; a VDPAU driver using DRI2 is in development,

Source code, release notes and documentation are available to download from the X.Org site and X.Org 7.5 is licensed under the MIT Licence. The next version, X.Org 7.6 is expected "Sometime in 2010".
