WordPress to replace Microsoft Live Spaces blogging
Microsoft is to close down its Live Spaces blogging service (launched six-years ago as MSN Spaces). Space's (according to Microsoft) 30 million users are to be "upgraded" to WordPress' free blogging software. Microsoft has entered into a partnership with Automattic, which is owned by WordPress developer Matt Mullenweg.
Live Spaces users have six months to migrate their blogs to WordPress.com. WordPress will integrate a piece of Microsoft software to enable users to inform contacts of new blog entries through Windows Live Messenger. On its Windows Team blog, Microsoft praises WordPress' "impressive capabilities" with regard to scalability, spam protection and configuration. Rather than investing in its own service, Microsoft has opted to offer its customers the WordPress.com blogging solution.
