Tiny Core Linux 4.4 improves extensions searching

Tiny Core 4.4 in action The Tiny Core Project development team has released version 4.4 of its minimal Linux distribution. According to lead developer Robert Shingledecker, the new update makes searching for additional extensions easier using a new TAG field. Searching using tags is now supported in both the GUI and command-line versions of the AppBrowser and ScmBrowser for finding Self Contained Mountable (SCM) applications, which were introduced in version 4.2.

In addition to improving search, Tiny Core 4.4 upgrades its Linux kernel to 3.0.21 and adds the ability to access embedded extensions when booting from a single ISO image file; a new boot code (iso=sdb1) and fromISOfile script are included to support this feature. Shingledecker says that this "allows the use of various boot loaders such as YUMI". Other changes include recompressing the included modules to save space and an updated BusyBox tool collection, version 1.19.4, that fixes a tftpd vulnerability.

Tiny Core 4.4 is available to download as Tiny Core, Core and CorePlus ISO image files – the Tiny Core system includes a desktop, while the Core version includes only a command-line interface; CorePlus is an extended version of the Core that includes several community packaged extensions. An installation guide is provided. Tiny Core is licensed under the GPLv2.
