Zoom Georg Greve, founder of the FSFE.
Georg Greve has been awarded the German Medal of Honour for his contributions to open standards and free software. Born in 1973, the physicist founded Free Software Foundation Europe in 2001 and served as its president up to last year.

While serving as president of the FSFE, Greve worked on various levels for free software. For instance, he was a member of United Nations committees and initiated the FSFE's Freedom Task Force, which compiled guidelines for the correct handling of free software and offers a trusteeship for free software.

There are associated Free Software Foundations in North America, France, India and Latin America. The North American FSF was the first, founded by Richard Stallman on 4 October 1985 and is associated with GNU. These non-profit foundations are dedicated to the promotion of Free Software and working for freedom in the emerging digital society.
