SUSE logo SUSE, a division of Attachmate, has announced that it will be the first Linux vendor to join Dell's Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Technology Partner program. Through the partnership, Dell will offer OEM Solutions customers the option to use SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) on its customised hardware.

Dell says that it will also use the enterprise Linux specialist's SUSE Studio product to build and deploy application stacks based on SLES. SUSE Studio is a cloud based service which allows OEMs like Dell, and other users, to configure and build operating system images with packages from the openSUSE Build service to create complete, quick and easy to install images, suitable for virtual machines, live USB, CD/DVD and hard disks. Dell plans to use the service to create images for embedded Dell OEM Solutions as well as creating built-to-order and customised solutions.

Ron Pugh, Dell OEM Solutions Executive Director, said, "By partnering with SUSE, we are broadening and strengthening our solutions for the embedded and OEM markets". The company hopes to reduce the "complexity and overhead costs" typically associated with bringing new integrated systems like these to the market.
