JBoss Logo Red Hat is now delivering JBoss Enterprise Business Rules Management System 5.1. JBoss Enterprise BRMS 5.1 manages business rules and their implementation in IT processes. According to Red Hat, the new version simplifies the operation of tools, the provisioning of rules for applications and SOA and cloud infrastructure and offers improved performance. Some initial complex event processing functions are included as a technical preview.

As Craig Muzilla, Vice President Middleware at Red Hat explains, solutions for managing business rules [...] need to be able to rapidly make the right decision in response to unexpected events. This requires a software architecture which allows rules to be simply adapted for processes such as real time insurance quotes, automatic discounts, linked frequent buyer programs and medical health records safeguards".

JBoss BRMS 5.1 consists of a rules engine, developer tools, a management system and a repository which allow business rules and their implementation in applications to be checked and audited and can be used to check whether business rules set out in documentation are being correctly implemented. This is especially important for companies which need to comply with complex rules, regulations and competition legislation.
