Red Hat logo A little under five years since it was first released, Red Hat has provided customers with the eighth "minor release" of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5. As well as bug fixes and improved hardware support, RHEL 5.8 also includes new virtualisation and power management features.

The H feature "What's new in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8" gives an overview of the changes merged into the eighth update for RHEL 5, which Red Hat will continue to maintain for a further five to eight years.

Accompanying the release of RHEL 5.8, Red Hat has also released a beta version of its Red Hat Subscription Asset Manager (SAM), an asset and inventory management application for installation on customer systems which Red Hat provides as part of its RHEL subscription service.
