Zoom ROSA Desktop.Fresh 2012 includes an up-to-date version of the KDE 4 desktop
ROSA Laboratory, the company behind the ROSA Desktop and ROSA Enterprise Linux distributions, has released the first version of ROSA Desktop.Fresh, which is targeted at users who are looking for cutting edge software. ROSA Desktop and the new Fresh variant are both based on Mandriva, but the developers say that the latter has much more up-to-date packages in its repositories. They also claim that it is nonetheless very stable and boots twice as fast as the earlier ROSA Desktop release.

Zoom The developers have improved the SImpleWelcome dashboard
ROSA Desktop.Fresh is based on Linux kernel 3.6.10 and uses KDE 4.9.4 as its desktop. GNOME 3.6.2, MATE 1.4.0, Xfce 4.10, and LXDE 0.5.5 can be installed from the repositories. Desktop applications include Firefox and Thunderbird 17, LibreOffice 3.6.2 and Amarok 2.6.0. Aside from package updates, developers have also improved the SimpleWelcome dashboard application and their themes for KDE, the GRUB boot loader, and the boot splash screen. Variants of the distribution based on GNOME 3 and LXDE are being prepared.

ROSA Desktop.Fresh 2012 is available for 32- and 64-bit systems from ROSA Laboratory's mirrors. The release is dedicated to Eugeni Dodonov who passed away during the development cycle. Dodonov was instrumental in the development of the ROSA distribution and led its migration to the RPM5 package manager.
