OpenOffice logo OpenOffice has released version 3.1.1 of the free office suite for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X for download. It fixes a number of bugs in the previous version and a potential security vulnerability, but does not add any new functionality.

New functionality is saved for the forthcoming version 3.2, scheduled for release in late November. For security reasons alone the project team recommends that all OpenOffice users switch to version 3.1.1.

The OpenOffice team has also issued an express warning not to download from third party sites running registration scams, even if the OpenOffice website is temporarily unavailable. In this case, the team recommends patience and that users simply try again later. OpenOffice is released under version 3 of the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPLv3).
