Open source DVR MythTV 0.24 RC1 released
The MythTV development team have announced the arrival of the first release candidate (RC1) for version 0.24 of their open source digital video recorder (DVR) software. The latest development preview of the media centre for Linux includes several changes, updates and new features.
MythTV 0.24 RC1 features a new MythUI on-screen display (OSD), the ability to read embedded text subtitles in, for example, MKV files and support for Blu-ray disc / folder parsing and playback. The development milestone also adds an online theme browser and downloader, support for Broadcom Crystal HD hardware decoding and automatic metadata grabbing. Other changes include audio updates, support for unencrypted ISOs, better stability and improved DVD playback.
As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are asked to report any bugs they encounter.
More details about the release can be found in the official release announcement and in the preliminary release notes on the MythTV wiki. MythTV 0.24 RC1 is available to download from the project's FTP site. MythTV is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). A release date for the final version has yet to be confirmed. The latest stable release is version 0.23.1, a bug fix release from the end of July.
