NGINX Inc, the company behind the high performance web server of the same name, has announced commercial support packages for the software. The open source NGINX, pronounced Engine-X, has gained a reputation for being a reliable and memory efficient HTTP server, reverse proxy, cache and load balancer; NGINX usage recently passed Microsoft's IIS in the Netcraft survey of active web servers. It reached this popularity with community support centred around mailing lists and forums; that community support will now be complemented by the new commercial support offerings.

The support packages come in Essential, Advanced and Premium bundles. Essential costs $1100 a month for two incidents a month covering one to ten servers with 24 hour response and 96 hour resolution time. At the other end of the scale, Premium starts at $6600 a month for an unlimited number of incidents on an unlimited number of servers, a 4-hour response time and an 8-hour response time for high severity problems. The packages can be bought on 3 or 12 month contracts and the Advanced and Premium packages include design, implementation and optimisation assistance.

NGINX is available to download from the open source project's web site and is distributed under a 2 clause BSD licence.
