Server manufacturer Morphlabs has announced the release of their mCloud Rack E product. The system is based on a Dell PowerEdge C2100 node and runs a completely SSD-based storage stack on software from Nexenta Systems. The server rack also comes with the "Essex" release of the OpenStack open source cloud platform pre-installed and ready for deployment.

Nexenta's NexentaStor Storage Area Network (SAN) platform is a proprietary software stack built on top of the OpenSolaris distribution and uses ZFS throughout. Nexenta work with the OpenSolaris code base through their use of and work with the open source Illumos community project.

Morphlabs recently signed on to the newly founded OpenStack Foundation as a Gold member and touts the cloud platform as "the most dynamic and fastest-growing open source project ever". The mCloud Rack E server costs $180,000 (about £112,000) and is currently also available as a trial from Morphlabs.
