Marvell announces Plug Computer 3.0
At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, chip manufacturer Marvell has announced version 3.0 of its Linux-powered "plug computer". The latest plug computer features embedded Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and uses the recently announced ARMADA 300 processor with a 2GHz clock speed. Unlike previous models which only included 512 MB of flash storage, Plug Computer 3.0 also includes a built-in hard drive. According to Marvell, multiple standard Linux 2.6 kernel distributions, such as Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian and Gentoo, are supported on the Plug Computer 3.0 development platform.
The new device is marketed as a development platform for building embedded devices. Marvell hopes that the device will be adopted in a number of new markets, including home automation, medical monitoring, multimedia content sharing and mesh and grid computing.
Pricing and availability, however, have yet to be announced. More information about Marvell's Plug Computer 3.0 and other Plug Computers can be found at PlugComputer.org.
