The Document Foundation has announced that the first maintenance update of LibreOffice, 3.3.1, is now available to download. The 3.3.1 release contains translation updates, improves stability and fixes for a number of crashing bugs which affected the Windows version. Mimetype icons have also been improved with new subtly shaded versions of the older icons and the addition of 256x256 icons; the new icons are now inline with the Foundation's branding guidelines.

"We have managed to troubleshoot a large number of bugs within a very short time, in order to maintain our enterprising release schedule" said Thorsten Behrens, a developer on the Steering Committee. He added that "There will be another minor release in a month, before our second feature release in early May".

The release notes suggest that users on Windows who already have OpenOffice.org installed should uninstall it beforehand to ensure that the file type associations do not clash. The LGPL licensed LibreOffice 3.3.1 can be downloaded for Windows, Linux (32-bit, 64-bit, rpm or deb packaging) or Mac OS X (Intel or PPC) systems from the LibreOffice.org downloads page where there is also source code for creating your own installer and an SDK for developing extensions and tools.
