KDE logo The KDE project has released the second point update to version 4.7 of its KDE Software Compilation (KDE SC). According to the developers, the maintenance update to the Linux and Unix desktop contains a variety of translation updates and bug fixes; as expected, no new features have been added.

Version 4.7.2 of KDE – the open source K Desktop Environment – brings stability and performance improvements to the Kontact Suite, which is based on the Akonadi framework and includes personal information management (PIM) applications such as the KAddressBook contact manager and the KMail email client. Other changes include fixes for issues in the Okular universal document viewer, the Konsole terminal emulator and the KDE libraries. In KGeography, the project's "geography learning tool", South Sudan has been added to the maps.

More details about the update, including a full list of changes, can be found in the official release announcement, in the change log, and on the KDE 4.7.2 Info Page. Source packages for self-compilation and binary packages for various Linux distributions are available to download from the project's web site. KDE is licensed under a combination of LGPLv2, BSD, MIT and X11 licences for core libraries and the GPLv2 or GPLv3 for applications.
