The KDE developers have announced the availability of the first release candidate (RC1) of KDE 4.3.0. The open source Linux and UNIX desktop environment release candidate focuses on bug fixes and "completing the user experience". In addition to the improvements from the first two beta releases, the RC features a new default theme for KDE 4.3.0, named "Air"; the previous default theme, Oxygen, included in earlier versions of KDE 4 will still be available as an option through the "Desktop Settings" dialog.

More details about the release can be found in the release announcement and the KDE 4.2.95 Info Page. KDE 4.3.0 RC1 is available to download and is only intended for testing and gathering feedback. The developers encourage users to report any bugs which they may find so that the final release will be as bug-free as possible. Users wishing to try out the beta version without installing it can download a KDE LiveCD from the openSUSE download page. The final version of KDE 4.3.0 is expected to be released at the end of this month.
