The openSUSE team has announced that, as from the first of August, Jos Poortvliet will be the new community manage for openSUSE. He takes over the position left open by Joe "Zonker" Brockmeier who left Novell earlier this year.

Poortvliet is a member of the KDE marketing team and has previously worked in several corporate positions such as Project Manager at KPN and Service Level Manager at the Royal Bank of Scotland. In his personal blog, Poortvlier said "I'm no Zonker - different people, different ideas & habits. However, I can tell you I greatly look forward to the work and I'll put all my love and energy into it ;-)". Among his first tasks will be to prepare for the openSUSE conference, taking place on October 20-23 in Nuremberg, Germany.
