Android Logo In a post on Twitter, Google VP of Engineering Andy Rubin has announced that 300,000 Android phones are being activated each day across the globe following incorrect reports that activations had slowed down. The number of phones running the open source Android mobile operating system has greatly increased in recent months.

In June of this year as Google released the source code for Android 2.2 "Froyo", Rubin had confirmed that the company was activating approximately 160,000 phones each day. That number rose to 200,000 just a few months later in early October.

In other Android-related news, mobile network management software solutions provider Arieso has published details of a series of its studies on mobile data usage across various smartphones. The company says that Android-based phones are particularly "data hungry", noting that they ranked higher in terms of data call volumes, time connected to the network, and data volume (uploaded and downloaded) than their iPhone counterparts.
