The developers of the Fuduntu Linux distribution have released version 14.12 of their "somewhere in-between Fedora and Ubuntu" Linux system. The release was made earlier than planned to coincide with the project celebrating its first year of operation. Fuduntu was founded on a fork of Fedora 14 with the slogan "Punny Name, Serious Distro". The project was originally an experiment that was uploaded to SourceForge, but has since managed to reach number 21 in the folkloric Distrowatch popularity chart of Linux distributions.

Fedora 14 comes to the end of its life on 8 December, but Fuduntu is now independent of it. Andrew "Fewt" Wyatt, lead Fuduntu developer, has announced that "we are officially forked" and that the developers have completed the transition to being a completely self-contained, self-hosted fork, built from their own repositories and with no external dependencies. The 14.12 release also includes the 3.0.7 Linux Kernel, Xorg 1.11.1 and Flash 11, and uses Remmina as its remote desktop client.
