Neil McGovern, speaking for the Debian Release Team, has announced that Debian 7 (code-named "Wheezy") will be released on 4 or 5 May. The release date will only be changed "if something really critical pops up that is not possible to handle as an errata" or if a server outage or another technical error prevents the release.

If Debian Wheezy is released as planned, it will appear 27 months after the current version – Debian 6 (or "Squeeze") – which was released in February 2011. However, there is still some work to be done before the release can happen. Among the things to be finished is the release documentation, including the page that lists the new features in Wheezy.
