Debian 5.0.6 "Lenny" released

The Debian Project has issued the sixth maintenance update to Debian GNU/Linux 5.0, code named "Lenny". The latest stable release includes a number of updates and addresses several bugs and security issues found in the 5.0.5 release from the end of June.

Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.6 features updated kernel images that include several security-related fixes, support for additional hardware, and a number of package updates. The developers also note that, although not available in time for the previous 5.0.5 release, the sun-java5 and sun-java6 packages for the ia64 architecture are included in this update. Additionally, the libconfig-inetd-perl package was removed as it was empty.

Users who currently have Debian 5.0 installed and regularly update their systems via security.debian.org should have already received most of these updates. "There is no need to throw away 5.0 CDs or DVDs" say the developers; Debian 5.0.6 is an updated version of the release for fresh installations for new Debian systems.
