Ardour logo Earlier this month, on the 4th of February 2009, SAE (SAE Institute originally the School of Audio Engineering) announced they would be withdrawing their sponsorship of the Ardour Digital Audio Workstation software for Linux. Paul Davis the lead developer on the project has therefore asked for donations to help keep the project running.

Ardour is a professional level multi-track audio recording application, similar to Steinburg Nuendo or Apple Logic. It uses the same amplitude-against-time strip display and mixer panel GUI paradigms, as most of the popular DAW's and supports audio plug-ins in the LADSPA and LV2 formats.

The big difference with Ardour, from other DAWs of its level, is that it is open source and runs on various flavours of Linux, or on Mac OSX.
