Apache Wicket logo The Apache Wicket project has announced the availability of version 1.4 of the web application framework. Wicket provides a simple, POJO (plain old Java objects) centric approach to writing web applications, which allows for reusable components and web applications written predominantly in the Java language.

The most notable change in the release is the ending of support for Java 1.4; Java 5 or later is now required. The developers have moved to using Java 5 idioms and, using Java generics, have increased the type safety of their own APIs. The change also allows third party developers to write type safe applications and custom components. Apache Wicket 1.4 is licensed under the Apache License version 2 and is available to download now.

The developers also release a final "feature release" of Wicket 1.3, version 1.3.7 which is available to download with changes detailed in the release notes.
