Zend Server 6.1 adds NGINX support
Zend Technologies has announced a new version of its PHP application server that ships with NGINX support. NGINX is the open source web server that is used by a large number of very popular web sites due to its robustness under heavy visitor loads.
Zend Server 6.1 has a large number of the NGINX core libraries pre-installed and Zend says that this combination offers a seamless installation process, has been thoroughly tested for compatibility and is currently "the fastest available out-of-the-box PHP implementation". Zend believes that NGINX's event-driven architecture makes it not only fast but also ideal for "chatty" HTML5/AJAX style applications such as those created by many Zend/PHP users and this it makes an ideal pairing for a PHP stack. Installation instructions and performance tips for the combined stack are available.
Other improvements in Zend Server 6.1 concern enhancements to frameworks, debugging and automated deployment capabilities. Support for shared code libraries makes it easier for developers to centrally deploy code that is used by a number of applications under Zend. The server's mobile analytics have also been a focus of development with the software now being able to report mobile use of web pages in real time.
To support the new deployment functions in Zend Server 6.1, the company has also released version 10.1 of Zend Studio. Aside from integration features for Zend Server, the new version of Zend Studio also includes a number of bug fixes and performance improvements. Zend Framework 2 has been integrated and the Symfony framework and Composer dependency manager are also supported.
Zend Server 6.1 is available to download free of charge from the Zend web site for Linux, Windows, Mac OS X and IBM i Series. Commercial editions that add longer data retention times for metrics and event logging, professional support and other features are also available.
