Solving partial differential equations in parallel with DUNE 2.2

Version 2.2 of the Distributed and Unified Numerics Environment (DUNE) has been released. DUNE is a modular C++ toolkit for solving partial differential equations in parallel. It can create simulations that allow researchers to explore thermal conduction, groundwater flow or elasticity of materials, and which work efficiently on parallel computers.

The new release offers various bug fixes and the developers have reorganised the interfaces and moved parts of the grid interface to the new dune-geometry module. They have also implemented Brezzi-Douglas-Marini and Raviart-Thomas finite elements. Additionally, the algebraic multigrid method, an efficient technique for solving linear equations, now scales to almost 300,000 cores and can solve problems with 1011unknowns, according to the developers.

DUNE is available to download from the project's web site. It is licensed under the GPLv2 with a "runtime exception", which, according to the author, allows it to be used in proprietary software.
