With the release of version 5.6 of the Flash Development Tools (FDT) plugin for Eclipse, Interactive Pioneers promised big performance optimisations particularly for project builds. According to the developers of the Flash and Flex tools package, the shorter build times are especially noticeable when developing games.

Particular emphasis has been placed on reducing memory consumption – prior to version 4.5 memory usage increased with each version. Since then, even with a rising number of new features, the FDT team has successfully reduced the plugin's maximum memory consumption, both during builds and after their completion.

There are both commercial "MAX" and free-of-charge versions of the plugin available. For FDT customers, upgrading to version 5.6 of the tool is free.
