Developer Break: JMeter, CXF, Nashorn, SpringSource and Azure
Developer Break – catch up on the smaller but important notes for developers, from libraries to APIs and from people to postings. This week: Apache JMeter and CXF, Nashorn blogs, Mobile framework selection, SpringSource tool updates and Azure on Windows Server.
- Load testing tool Apache JMeter 2.8 has been released with new delayable thread creation, IPv6 support in the Cookie Manager, better memory use with scripting languages via JSR223 and more.
- Apache CXF, the open services framework, has been updated to version 2.7.0; the new version adds support for UDP transport and SOAP/UDP, WS-Discovery, a new implementation of the HTTP transport and some JAX-RS 2.0 support.
- Oracle has created a blog for Nashorn with information about the new JavaScript implementation for Java.
- Mobile developers may, or may not, find EclipseSource's Mobile Technology selector useful. It asks a number of questions about developers' mobile objectives for a project and, at the end, recommends a framework to work with.
- The SpringSource developers have released updated versions of the Spring Tool Suite and Groovy/Grails Tool Suite. Changes include updates for Eclipse Juno SR1, support for Mac OS X Gatekeeper and updated tc Server (2.7.2), Groovy (2.0.4) and Grails (2.1.1).
- Windows Azure Services for Windows Server has now reached beta status, which should enable Windows Server systems to offer previously Azure-only services.
