Spammers like to embed images in their emails, often as invisible 1-pixel Web bugs. If your email program downloads these images from the Internet, it can also reveal a lot about you:
- The fact that the email address that the email was sent to is actually in use.
- You read the email, and you did so at a certain time.
- You used a certain browser and a certain operating system.
- Your current IP address, which also reveals your provider and possibly even your location.
All of this information is worth good money to spammers. Our test email shows whether your email program downloads such images.
