Microsoft's hackers can now have their say in a blog created just for them. In the blog called hackers @ microsoft there is, however, so far only a single posting. In it, the author "techjunkie" outlines the aim of the blog: to present some of Microsoft's hired "white hat hackers" and their work. According to the posting, future entries will have a considerable focus on security.

Until now, Microsoft avoided speaking in public about the fact that it employs its own "hackers". That's probably the reason why the author has also taken the opportunity to rehabilitate the term, which has received an unfair share of negative publicity, by writing: "A true hacker is someone who is curious and wants to learn how systems work."

In popular parlance the term hacker has indeed become synonymous with morally objectionable intentions, and the term is usually applied in the media to those who should by rights be called "black hats" or "crackers".
