eBay has asked participants in its developers program to change their passwords for develop.ebay.com. There appears to have been a security problem (details of which have not been disclosed) which has allowed unauthorised access to login information. According to Kumar Kandaswamy, head of eBay's developers program, passwords for www.ebay.com are not affected and no other data, such as credit card numbers, has been accessed.

To date, no misuse of stolen data has been identified. eBay issued its warning both as a posting on its developers program blog and by email, though many developers initially assumed that the email was spam. According to a number of reports, changing a password can in some circumstances result in a user no longer being able to log-in to his or her account.
