Zmanda backups can be confined to European clouds

Zmanda The newly released second generation of Zmanda's cloud backup software, Zmanda Cloud Backup (ZCB) 2.0, if required, can save data only to servers physically located within geographical area, for example within European Union (EU) member states only. Users can specify the geographical region in which data should be stored in Amazon's S3 cloud. According to Zmanda, this allows its data backup suite to meet the requirements set out by the European Union's Data Protection Directive (EUDPD). The software is able to back up both physical and virtual Windows systems.

Whilst previous versions of ZCB were able to backup and restore Windows servers and clients, Microsoft Exchange, Oracle and SQL Server, the new version adds support for open source database MySQL and Sharepoint. Backups to the cloud can now be encrypted using Windows security certificates and users can also restore individual files, rather than entire directories.

Zmanda Cloud Backup 2.0 is available immediately and, with basic level support, costs $4.95 (£3.10) per account per month, plus 25 cents (16p) per GB of data transferred and 25 cents per GB of storage per month.
