Wind River Logo Embedded specialist Wind River has combined its VxWorks DO-178B and VxWorks IEC 61508 real-time operating systems to create its new VxWorks Cert Platform. VxWorks Cert offers certification for the DO-178B (Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification) security standard and the IEC 61508 functional safety standard by default. Certification is provided via a separate, sealed DVD which contains the required data as well as independent certification documents.

Wind River's new product will reportedly offer its users more design and programming flexibility, as well as enhanced compatibility with existing, imported or recycled code. VxWorks Cert supports C++ and real-time processes and includes the current version of Wind River's on-chip debugging tools as well as the Development Tools Suite for software developers and the Wind River Workbench. The vendor has scrapped the VxWorks DO-178B and VxWorks IEC 61508 platforms it previously offered as individual products.
