Update for Internet Explorer claims to fix crashing problem
Microsoft has released an update for Internet Explorer 6 under XP, aimed at fixing the recently identified stability problems caused by the cumulative updates (942615) from the last patch day. Some users had complained that Internet Explorer crashed as soon as it started or when it tried to load specific Web pages. Well known sites, such as those of FedEx, were affected. The Microsoft Security Response Center has advised users either to download the update from the Microsoft website or to use the Windows Update facility.
The update does not really fix the problem but is an automated version of Microsoft's previously suggested manual workaround. It creates a new key in the registry of users who are experiencing problems.
