Today is the day that three different versions of Canonical's Ubuntu Linux distribution will reach their end of life. All versions of Ubuntu 11.10 ("Oneiric Ocelot"), the desktop version of Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS ("Lucid Lynx"), and the server edition of Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS ("Hardy Heron") will no longer receive any updates. This means that users of these Ubuntu versions should migrate to newer releases as soon as possible as no critical security updates will be delivered to these releases either.

For users of Ubuntu 11.10 and 10.04 LTS, a direct upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, the platform's latest long-term support release, is available from the Update Manager. Canonical says it highly recommends users upgrade their systems. Information on how to perform distribution upgrades for all versions of Ubuntu is available on the project's documentation pages.
