A report on the SunBelt blog notes that UK students and others with loans from the Student Loan Company are being targeted by phishers. Phishers have copied the look and feel of the DirectGov website to create a fake version of the Student Loan Company's pages. The forms on the fake site are designed to elicit details such as bank details, NI number and date of birth.

If a person fills in the forms and presses save, they are redirected to the Log out page of the Student Finance section of the DirectGov website, so they could easily assume they had previously been on the real site. Sunbelt have noted that the number of sites hosting the phishing pages has increased during April and warns students and others with a loan from the Student Loans Company to be vigilant over any URLs they follow.
