Twitter Logo Twitter has announced that it is launching a new service to protect its users against phishing and other attacks by attempting to detect, intercept and prevent "bad links" before a user clicks on them. The popular microblogging company says that, from now on, it will be routing all links submitted to Twitter through a new service, allowing the company to block bad links even after they've already been sent out in an email notification.

According to Del Harvey, Director of Twitter's Trust and Safety team, as these type of attacks often occur in email notifications and Direct Messages, this is where the company will focus their "initial efforts". Harvey says that, for the most part, users will not even notice the feature as it will be working behind the scenes. Users may, however, notice that links have been shortened to "twt.tl" links in Direct Messages and email notifications.
