As a result of DDoS attacks on the DynDNS service, there may currently be problems updating IP addresses. Users may, for example, be denied access to their usual server or router. Some users have, for example, been having problems with updating since Sunday morning, whilst others report no problems. Using DynDNS' dynamic name server service, it is possible to allocate a fixed host name to a computer which is allocated a dynamic IP address by the provider when it accesses the internet. This enables such a computer for example, to run a web server despite using a dynamic IP address.

According to DynDNS, the attack on members.dyndns.org started at 5 pm UTC on Friday. The administrators introduced counter-measures on Saturday to take the main site www.dyndns.org out of the firing line. No further information is available at present. Until the problem is fixed or the attack stops, DynDNS is recommending users to repeat update attempts regularly.
