Debian logo The Debian project has announced the release of the third update to version 6.0, "Squeeze", of its Debian Linux distribution. The update to the current stable release focuses on addressing security vulnerabilities and bugs found in the previous versions, as well as updating a number of included packages.

The developers note that users who are already using Debian Squeeze and regularly update their system online should have already received most, if not all, of the updates for Debian 6.0.3. Users are advised not to throw away older CDs or DVDs of Debian Squeeze as they can be upgraded to the latest version after installation via the online update mechanism.

Further information about the update, including a full list of updated packages, can be found in the announcement news post and in the change log. Users can update their systems using the upgrade command in aptitude or apt-get. New installation media with CD and DVD images will be "available soon" from the project's mirrors.
