TeamSpeak forum spreads trojan
Members of the official TeamSpeak forum goteamspeak.com, may have been slipped malware. TeamSpeak is a voice conferencing solution optimised for online games. According to Bastian Schaar from TeamSpeak Systems, unknown attackers penetrated the forum server, installed an infected file, patch.exe, and then, via an e-mail distribution list, requested all registered forum members, with the exception of TeamSpeak Systems employees, to download and install the 'patch'. "Now you can download new Team Speak patch. It will help you to use our Team Speak servers. We advise you to download it now!"
What precisely the malware does is not clear, but according to initial analysis it has characteristics of a trojan. The security vulnerability has now been remedied and the trojan removed from the website. According to TeamSpeak Systems, all forum members have been informed of the incident via e-mail. Users who have installed this file should scan their systems with anti-virus software. If the file has not yet been installed, simply delete it.
