TYPO3 publishes Security Guide for web site owners

The TYPO3 community has announced the release of a new Security Guide for system administrators, integrators and editors. According to the guide's creators, the new publication replaces the outdated "Security Cookbook" and covers various aspects of protecting installations of the open source TYPO3 content management system (CMS), as well as "general strategies and a peek into the workings of the Security Team".

TYPO3 Security Team leader Helmut Hummel says that, in 2011, the number of attacks on web sites has risen significantly, noting that "A successful attack on a web site can be blamed on many sources, more often than not on inappropriate configurations or usage of badly-coded extensions". In addition to general strategies and advice on how to make a site more secure, the new TYPO3 Security Guide includes information on detecting a hacked web site as well as how to analyse and fix it.

The TYPO3 Security Guide is available to view online or to download in DocBook or OpenOffice.org Writer format. Like the project's other official documentation, the Security Guide is published under the Open Content License; the source code for TYPO3 is licensed under the GPL
