With version 2.4.2 released in late October, the developers of OpenOffice closed critical security holes that allowed malicious code to be injected and executed via EMF and WMF files. Now, Sun has followed suit with an update for StarOffice 8, which is based on OpenOffice. It is available for Windows, Linux and Solaris.

Apart from the security holes, update 12 corrects several other flaws contained in the office software, as documented in the readme file.
