Skype worm - do not disturb!
Skype users wondering about missed calls should check their systems for virus infection. According to F-Secure, a Windows worm, Pykse, currently doing the rounds, switches the Skype client to "Do Not Disturb" mode, so that users no longer receive incoming calls - victims do, however, receive a one-off warning of this. However, Pykse does not just change your settings - it also sends Skype messages to all contacts who are currently online. The message contains a link to a file which installs the malware. When the program is launched an image of a scantily clad women is displayed, probably to avoid awakening the user's suspicions. After infecting a computer, Pykse contacts a number of websites to upload a counter of the number of successful infections.
Apart from manipulating Skype settings, the malware does not appear to cause any damage and does not spy on local data. F-Secure do not give figures for the number of infections. Back in December, another worm attempted to use Skype as a means of distribution. That worm attempted to scout out passwords.
