The xine developers have released xine-lib 1.1.15 which is, predominantly, a security update to the popular media player library. The new release fixes a DoS (Denial of Service) issue caused by corrupted OGG media files and reported as CVE-2008-3231. The update also fixes some buffer overflows and includes changes allowing the library to recognise AMR audio and Snow video.

The xine library is the engine behind many multimedia applications, including the Gnome and KDE-3 media players Totem and Kaffeine and is a component of the KDE-4 multimedia framework Phonon.
