Security experts take a close look at Lion

Apple is apparently modernising its security policy. As US magazine Computerworld reports, Apple has provided a number of security experts with a pre-release version of OS X 10.7 "Lion" and asked for feedback. However, the experts were required to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and if they found any problems, they were asked not to make them public.

The firm's current security policy is highly controversial. Security expert Felix von Leitner, known under the alias "Fefe", argues in an interview that Apple has to do more if its customers are to continue to be able to sleep soundly. He also sees signs that Apple is starting to change its approach.

The firm's new security head, the recently appointed David Rice, may be behind the changes. Apple continues to add staff to its security team and recently hired a number of renowned experts, including Charlie Miller and Dino Dai Zovi, the two best known "Mac hackers". But unlike Google, Apple does not offer any financial bonuses for discoveries of security flaws.
