Since the release of Personal Software Inspector 1.0 last week, over those seven days security specialists Secunia have gathered statistics showing that out of 20,000 PCs polled only 1.91 per cent of machines in personal use are fully patched with the latest security updates. According to statistics Secunia have gathered in the past, if anything, the numbers for insecure PCs are worse now, than they were a year ago.

Applying the latest security patches to programs is just as important as a maintaining a firewall and an up-to-date anti-virus program because such un-patched programs may, quite legitimately, be using open ports through the firewall.

Secunia say that Personal Software Inspector 1.0, a free utility that allows users to run a check on their PC's for out-of-date program versions, has been successfully installed on more than 120,000 machines.
