Security vendor Symantec has released the beta of Norton 360 Version 2 for download and public testing. The all-in-one security solution is particularly user-friendly and offers virus protection, anti-spyware, a firewall, intrusion prevention and anti-phishing as well as computer clean-up functionality and a backup module.

In Version 2, additional components have been added. Browser Defender links into Internet Explorer and tries to identify and block malicious activities such as attempted malware injections. An "identity safe" is provided to store and manage passwords for online accounts and to assist, for example, with filling in forms. In addition, the new version's backup module can apparently also create backups on Blu-ray discs and iPods.

The beta phase is scheduled to take about four weeks. The final version usually takes another few weeks for final touches such as localisation to be performed.
