The PHP development team has released version 5.2.9 of the open source scripting language. The new release includes over fifty bug fixes, several of which are related to security issues. The imagerotate() function did not validate colour correctly (CVE-2008-5498) which could have allowed an attacker to read arbitrary memory and allow access to internal information. Specific details on the severity of the other holes is not available, but the developers encourage users to upgrade to this release.
